Down Syndrome
Individuals with Down Syndrome experience delays in oral-motor skills and fine and gross motor skills. Slower reaction times and slower postural reactions characterize their motor patterns. Twenty-five percent of infants with Down Syndrome have congenital heart defects, and 10 percent have a higher incidence of thyroid disorders. Infants and children with Down Syndrome also are at higher risk for upper respiratory infections and have a higher incidence of acute myeloid leukemia.
